I recall from days gone by having seen instructions for replacing a water pump. I can not remember if they were specific to the SE, but I have not been able to locate them here. I would be very grateful for any help.

Thanks

Can you put your 99SE in your signature? That'll help us help you in your future posts.

Send a link to this topic to myfirstbonne. He just did a 95SE (same as yours) in my garage last month. Very straightforward. Our Techinfo articles are backed up offline and are being updated and edited before they can be uploaded again.

If you need step-by-step help right away, consider buying a Chilton's Repair Manual (28200) for about $22 or you may be able to check it out from your local library for free. Even though I have been wrenching on cars for decades, I have a lot more confidence when I have good reference materials to consult.

Just a couple of things I remember from the last one I did on a Series II:

A long, square-shank screwdriver can be positioned between two of the pulley bolt heads to hold the pulley to allow you to loosen or tighten the bolts.

Make sure the surfaces where the gasket sits are flat and clean. Use new single edge razor blades and/or a carbide gasket scraper.

The four big water pump bolts go into coolant passages and will need thread sealant on the threads to prevent a possible leak.

I like to put a thin coating of rtv silicone on both sides of the water pump gasket, I don't know if it is necessary, but they don't leak that way.

I also put a light skimcoat on the water pump gasket, both sides.

Use a paper gasket. If your wp comes with the plastic gasket, don't use it. Get a paper/fiber gasket instead.

On my 95 I also had to remove the Power steering pump. I just removed the mounting bolts and pushed it out of the way to get to the bolts. It also looks like the motor mount had to be removed, but it did not.

Yes, do be sure to use the RTV sealant. I was told it was a dry install gasket... did the whole PITA project- and it ended up leaking horribly. Had to do the whole silly thing all over again  Especially if it's your first time doing this project it's a good security measure.
