Sigh..this car has been a series of firsts for me including the first time I have ever done this...


I think i know how to fix it and will post more pics when i get a chance to. I might be distracted for a bit though...

I am thinking i just need a donor stud and then press/hammer/cuss/drill/hand grenade the old one out. Then use the lug nut to pull the new one into place.

Sound reasonable?

You may have some fun knocking that stud out... Is it flush with the Hub or is there enough to get an old lug on it?

Big drift punch, a steady hand, and a 5# sledge hammer does the trick. Rotate the hub so the cut-out lines up with the stud you need to remove...then pound away. Couple of taps with the sledge hammer will pop it loose.

The new stud will slide in, wiggle it a little so the splines match up with where the old stud was, then pull it tight using the lug nut.

Thats what I figured. I am a state worked so I am thinking that is my fun for monday while I am off. I PMed mike about a stud from the hub he just changed but he never got back to me yet. Anyone got a spare or am I boneyard bound?

They are pretty cheap from the store as Andrew said. I've done about 10 of them before (old truck had issues lol). Just make sure when you pull the new one thru with lug nut, that you don't damage the nut (maybe use a spare in case) and definetly make sure you get it thru all the way. Check the back side to make sure the head sits flat against the hub. If it doesn't, it will move while driving and can cause other issues with you rim and hub.

Use a big washer between the nut and the hub while pulling it through. That way you don't hurt either the nut or the hub.

Yep they are cheap from the parts store..

Don't use the lug when pulling the stud through, we learned in my auto class that you are supposed to use any normal nut to pull it through to prevent damage to the threads on the lugnut then use the lugnut to put the wheel on

Ok i will head over to ACE and find a normal nut that fits those threads and then keep it forever. I will grab a few thick washers also to spread out the force..oh boy monday should be fun
