Hey All!

I have two questions for you about the driver information on the dash!

first: the driver information cuts in and out, i believe there is a loose wire that is making this do that! is it difficult to fix?
second: The driver information says that i have a brake tail light out, which i have replaced! is there any way to reset the information so that it does not say i have a brake light out??

Thanks

The flaky DIC is typically corrosion either in the dash connection, or in between the individual circuit boards in the cluster. I suggest carefully removing it, reseating all the connections a few times, and re-assembling it. This solves the problem in most cases.

With regards to your lamp monitor, there is no way to 'reset' it. You either used the wrong bulb in the past, have corrosion in the socket of one of them, or have overlooked the 3rd brake light at the base of the rear window. Even if the bulb works, if the part number is incorrect, it'll set a message on the lamp monitor. This is all assuming it's a BRAKE light.

TAIL light warnings usually fool people because they don't notice the tiny 194 bulb being out, or don't realize they have a license plate light out on one side or the other.

5 or 6 years ago, I got a warning for the brake light, and found the 3rd light at the base of the rear window was out. I had a few spare bulbs that LOOKED and WORKED identical left over from the interior lighting in my old 5th wheel trailer. Worked like a charm, but the warning wouldn't go away.

Bought the right bulb, and the warning went away. But corrosion in the socket can do exactly the same thing.

I agree that corrosion in the socket or a bad wiring connection can cause the same symptom.

I don't know if this'll help anyone, but coincidentally, the lamp monitor turned on in my '93 SSEi last week, and the 3rd brake light area was illuminated on the display. Ironically, I pressed the pedal and saw that the 3rd brake light bulb WAS working each and every time I pressed the pedal, even though the lamp monitor said otherwise. I removed the bulb and checked the socket; the bulb and socket looked like new. I reinstalled the same bulb and pressed the pedal again repeatedly and the lamp monitor came on sometimes but not always. I replaced the bulb, and the lamp monitor hasn't come on since then.

the first thing i would check is the license plate bulb. Willwren mentioned it, but It's easy to overlook (in the post, and real life!) :P

Thanks for all the good input. I am having the same problem and will take a look at all these suggestions to fix the message I am seeing.
