Hi,

So My car is overheating, the cooling fans are not coming on. I replaced the cooling fan relays and all fuses are fine. The fans do not come on when the AC is turned on. I unplugged the coolant temp sensor and the fans do come on, but I get no reading on the dash temp gauge now. I have a few questions if anyone can please help?

1. is there a second temp sensor that controls the fans to turn on at a certain temp or is it all through one temp sensor (the one I unplugged)
2. Is it safe to drive in this condition for a few days with the fans constantly on?
3. If it's not the temp sensor, I'm thinking it might be the ECC that needs replacing? If so can I wire in an override switch from the relay temporarily to turn fans on manually and then I can plug temp sensor back in until I figure out getting a new ECC module?

Thanks all for your help

I know 92/93 had two sensors, one for the guage and one for the computer. Not sure if that changed for 94 with the change in pcm style. You could wire in a switch to ground the fan relay when you want the fans on in the meantime while you figure it out. I'd try to avoid running the fans all the time. It'd be hard on the battery.

I changed the sensors (there are 2, one under the thermostat housing and one around the back ), still the fans are not coming on so think I need a new pcm? Are these interchangeable if I pick one up at a junk yard? In the meantime as I know the relay and fuse is good as fans come on when temp sensor is unplugged - I will attempt to wire a switch to ground at the fan relay and run into cabin - is this relatively simple job?

It is pretty easy. I think it might be in techinfo.
