Year and Trim: 1995 SSEi
I have a 1995 SSEi with low mileage (70k), but there was a recent oil issue and now the engine is locked up and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. If possible, I'd like to improve the performance if I'm going to take the time/money to fix it. Here are the options that I think I should be considering:

1) Rebuild the Series I supercharged engine
2) Replace with same engine
3) Swap Series II or Series III engine
4) Swap with some FWD V8 like a Northstar or LS4
5) Don't fix the car

I welcome your advice on the most practical thing to do in my situation. I'd like to keep the car and continue using it, but don't want to sink more than ~5k in this project.

Thanks for your help.

Most practical for time would be to drop in a reman Series 1 (get a 94/95 to ensure it was the latest heads and rotating assembly).
Most practical for money/time would be a used Series 1.
Most practical for money would be to fix it yourself.

Most practical in terms of modding/performance is a series 2 engine and 4t65e-hd swap. Tons of aftermarket support (somewhat starting to dwindle lately).

LS4 or Northstar won't have a lot else you can do in terms of mods after the swap. I don't know that anybody has done one of these yet - I know at least one LeSabre T-type had a Northstar swap done but it was an early Northstar. probably going to need all custom motor and trans mounts on top of the usual engine swap fabrication business.
