Hi all!

I have a 1997 Bonneville SSE with the NA 3800 and 4T60E(M13) transmission that has started to slip when hot(95 degree day, driving 2+ hours). I was looking to swap a 4T65E or 4T65E-HD out of a 1998 of 1999 Bonneville.

Would either be a direct swap(no computer or wiring needed)?

And if I was to get a whole parts car, should I do the 4T65E, or 4T65E-HD?

Want to get the car back to being reliable and my 1998 Bonneville SE(4T65E) that I had had a different gear ratio that was more suitable for our driving.

Thank you!

65s use a solenoid to set line pressure and 60s use an external vacuum modulator. Your PCM can't control the line pressure of a 65.

The easiest thing is to find your trans. If you don't want to mess with tuning, the second easiest thing is wiring in a 98 setup from a L36/65-e equipped car.

Any 65-hd trans will have a gear ratio that only came with a L67. So, tuning required.

Would getting a 98 Bonneville with the 4T65E parts car with the PCM and everything work? Or would that be too involved and still need tuning and such for the 97?

Yeah, I'm sure that would have everything you need. Some minor wiring might be required.
