The headlight knob has been acting up the past few months, having to pull or push knob to tirn off dinger when i get in out of vehicle.

My dash lights were out the other night and knew from my 00 Regal i probably had no tail lights.(regal was blowing fuses from rear tail light wires) Sure enough had headlights and brake lights but no running lights.

Took dash trim off and unscrewed 3 torx screws in speedometer and went to unscrew 1 near headlight switch and tried lights and they worked last night, put dash back together and I think switch is finally dead. I haven't taken out yet.

Should i search junkyard or just get a new?
Looked like parts store had a few switches to pick from? $30 to $50

Looks like its hard to remove/ install switch in out of dash.

If you can get one at a junkyard, I would go that route. Check the plug to make sure it's not melted on the J/Y piece and take that too. When my switch went, it melted the plug.

With that dash trim out of the way, it just takes some twisting to get the switch out. Pretty easy.

I got knob off without breakibg it but broke 2/3 plastic pieces around screws trying to get knob off.

I took pics of old headlight switch but dont know how to post pics. The harness looks a little disforned but all contacts look decent.

Ill go to junkyard to hunt replacement.

I too had the knob removal problem on my 96, so, I inspected the contacts at the back, and sure enough, some were loose - I had to get a probe and press the release clip for the wires

BE SURE TO DO ONE AT A TIME TO AVOID CONFUSION AND GRIEF.

I think my wiring plug in might be the problem Im gonna add pictures of wiring harness. Wires look good but 13 pin connector thing looks a little melted.

Im going to try junkyard headlight switch tmrw and just hook it up and see what it does.

That's what mine looked like. The problem with the switch is fairly common. I would replace the plug if it's melted. I actually packed mine with dielectric grease to deter the +12v from trying to take any shortcuts.

Looks 1 bankof comnector pins went up in smoke, only 1 side of plug is disforned.

Would you suggest using a new connector thing?

Can you take each 1 of those 13 pins or should I splice all 13 of them

Ill post pics of the ol Garnett Gorilla tmrw Id hate ro rerire her yet but shes leaning that way

I forget which side of the plug those get de-pinned from. Like if it's from the connector side, you'll need to splice it in.

Get the plug and a couple inches of harness at the yard with the switch.
