Looking to replace all 4 corners. Have heard good things about KYB Excel-G shocks on other cars. I see they are now available for the
1997 Bonneville. These are pretty pricey $450.00 complete set. Are they worth the difference? I do like a performance ride. Anybody have opinions on this shock??

I put a set on the front of my 92 when I thought a shimmy it had could be coming from the 80k mile old Monroe Reflex struts (stiffer than stock, not made anymore). I got a slight improvement in ride. They come with and without springs/mounts. I might suggest getting the bare struts and reusing your springs. My front end did go up a bit. I haven't put 500 miles on it since then in the last few years, so maybe it'll settle down, idk.

Thanks for reply. What about the mounting components, Should I replace them as well? Definately going with KYB excel-G fronts. What about the backs? I have ELC with a hole in baffle.

Definately get mounts/bearings. If you get the sets with springs, they'll be all the parts you need. I don't recall who offers what for the rear.

I like the complete package deal (Strut/Spring) but are my OEM springs better/stiffer? I do not want the front end any higher than it is now. Is that the main reason to keep my old springs?

I have also heard that the OEM springs are better quality than the ones included on quick struts. I am old fashioned and disassemble the old strut and re-use. Careful use of the spring tool and a Hail Mary have kept me from getting a spring to the face yet. I put KYB struts and mounts in my 96 SSEi a year ago, I am very happy with the smooth ride, and better handling. I prefer these over the Monroes I used to buy.

I have used Monroe twice on a '92 Bonneville. I would not use Monroe again. - BC

I put these on my front - http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php ... 94&jsn=259
and Gabriel self leveling shocks on the rear in the last year. I really just bought the Gabriels because they were a manufacturers closeout and a good deal. I've never had a good experience with Monroe and unfortunately there's not many choices for '97 Bonnevilles. I'm pretty happy with the KYB ride but it's by no means a 'performance ride' like a European sports sedan. I guess the shock manufacturers model the shocks after the OEM specs and that's just what you get. But I would stay away from Monroe for sure.

Thanks for replies. Going to order the excel-G shocks. Has anyone added the rubber spring stiffeners, that go between the coils of the spring. I seem to remember an old thread but could find it. Any thought?

Hey, Finally got around to replacing front struts and Rear shocks. So far I love the KYB Excel-G's. Car handles much better, less under-steer. Back to a firm ride with less roll in corners. Still pretty new (500 miles) but I'm very pleased.
