hi, if you have no experience with this process, it would be unwise to attempt it yourself without help but

remove hood
unbolt: tranny, engine mounts and harness for wires
rad and oil connections to block, brake booster
intake tube and anything else that is connected to engine
you may want to remove the a/c compressor to get more wiggle room

why do you feel the need to replace the engine?

You don't need to remove the hood, as long as you have a way to support it reliably in a wide open position after unconnecting the hood struts. That's what I did.

There's a lot of little steps, wiring connections, etc to undo. The two major things to know are that there is a 'backwards bolt' bolting the engine to the trans that you have to access from the passenger side with a lot of extensions to get back to the bellhousing area, and there's a bracket attaching the tailhousing of the trans to the engine block. There's a lot more that I don't know, I've only helped drop a trans, not remove the engine.

the power steering pump bolt broke off in the block and after trying to drill out and re tap failed its not fixable now and plus it did over heat so I bought a used motor from junk yard to replace it with and was wondering the steps and any tips before I started the swap

This thread is for how to remove the engine WITH the trans, so many steps do not apply, but it is a good breakdown: engine/topic160.html

It's not bad, keep track of your bolts, bag and label, give yourself lots of time so you're not rushed, you can rent the cherry picker, no need to remove the hood (although that is quite easy to do if you just want to make it simpler). The backwards, or b**ch bolt, can be gotten out with focus and two 24" extensions. Expect to replace a lot of things while you're in there, like the exhaust downpipe flange bolts may not survive being taken out given their age. I recommend doing intake and valve cover gaskets before you put your used motor in, it's such a piece of cake with the engine out, and you're going to have to do it someday anyway. I did it by myself in a barn yard after only 3 years of working on cars. A 3800 in an H body is not a bad job as far as motor swaps go.
