So the other day i went to turn my key but it was kinda stuck so i went to turn it again and it finely went but the key turns freely in the cylinder. The steering wheel unlocks but it doesn't allow me to shift the car or start the car. You cant tell when the key is in the on position and it doesn't spring back to the on position from the start position. I dug into the steering column a but and found out the cylinder is good, and that the rack and pinion that goes farther into the steering column is good, so at this point i think its the switch that is bad. Has anybody else had this problem? or is there more linkage before the switch that i missed? any thoughts?

It's been a while since I took an ignition switch apart. But my recollection is that there is a metal rod that pushes the ignition switch to the position set by the key. You might have to dig into the column to make sure the rod isn't broken.
