Hey guys, i just bought a mint 95 SSEi and didnt realize until I got it home, that the sensor works, but when the headlights turn on the dashlights go off. I can hear the module click when the headlights turn on then I have no dash lights. Obviously I tried turning the switch on the dash to no avail. Doing a little digging here in the forum i see that maybe I should try with replacing the switch? Does that make sense? Or could it possibly be the module under the dash that is the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The first thing I would check is to see whether or not the taillights are illuminating.
It is actually a safety feature that, when your taillights aren't working, your dashboard lights turn off to alert you to the taillight failure.
If they aren't working, then check and change the fuse and/or bulbs and see if the problem resolves.

Let us know the outcome.

I checked and I do have taillights. Of course I've checked all the fuses and everything seems fine.

Our headlight switches control a lot of lighting functions and are not failproof. When mine went bad the headlights would randomly turn off. In your case I think the portion that controls the dash brightness probably went bad.

Ok I'll start with replacing the switch. Where's the best place/link to buy one? Thanks!

New ones are kinda expensive. Maybe get a junkyard unit to try?

I replaced the headlight switch on my 92 SSE quite a while back. It wasn't cheap, but I wanted dash lights. - BC
