Hey all,

So I drove the 88 some distance for the first time and I noticed right when it changes from 1st to 2nd gear I get a rattling noise and a vibration from the passenger side. I assume this is the Harmonic Balancer telling me its getting a bit long in the tooth? I understand that this is a common issue.

At first I thought it was a CV but it does it going straight and during turns, and always around 2k-2500 RPM. If I drive more like an a$$hat It doesn't make the noise at all. It goes all the way up to 60 with no vibrations or noises.

The car drives absolutely beautiful other than that, so I do hope it not Transmission/Differential related.

The harmonic balancer usually presents itself at idle. Is it possible to grab a vid?

Also remember the torque axis mount is in that neighborhood too, and can show problems with age, or if its not bolted together and correctly

Not right now but I can. Like I said it always presents itself around 2k when it shifts from 1st to 2nd. Never any other time. I was thinking it could be a motor mount too....The thing is quiet when in park and revved and at idle.

Is the axis mount that mount that I had to take apart when I replaced the serpentine belt?

I was thinking that was a *dang* good possibility myself. It looks loose.

Hah, well that can't be helping at all. May be a good idea to check the other two mounts. That one is normally the last to go.

Haha. Where are the other mounts? Can I take a look at them without jacking the car up?

I'm dealing with same issue right now. Weird enough I just started doing some research on it today. I'm thinking it could be that shock absorber mount.

Keep me updated on what you find. Is there one dog bone mount, or two?

Harmonic balancer knock is horrific and sounds like your engine is about to explode. Embarrassing in traffic.

If you have it, with the engine off, you should be able to rotate the accessory belt easily back and forth freely too.

No, I don't think its the Harmonic Balancer anymore.

I created another thread, but here is the noise with a video.
