It seems my left turn signal has decided to quit cancelling at 174K. Right is fine; I'm sure there's some little plastic part that's broken deep within the steering column.

So, does anybody have a diagram on how to dissasemble the steering column, and a part number for that cancellation cam?

Also, my VATS took a dump a few years ago, and I have it bypassed with a resistor. Would this be a good time to do the job properly?

Thanks.

Cancel cam comes in a part set called "Steering Spring Kit" GM p/n 26059701

I know because I have one sitting here. The 1998's left turn signal started doing the same like a year ago. I tried to fix it but the AutoZone puller bolt broke off in the steering wheel

Some day I'm gonna go back in there and drill that fooker out and go at it again.

I'll get some FSM diagrams to you tomorrow.

Bob, I watched a buddy do this last night on Frank's car. Overall if you have the horseshoe shaped J tool, you are all set. It pushes back on things slightly to remove the two retaining rings. As far as the part itself goes, Edwin mentioned that typically one spring (should be two of them) comes up missing. The missing spring correlates to the side that won't return. Swapping the spring is a quick easy thing to do, when compared to pulling the hush panels, lowering the column slightly to get to the ground that is located in an awkward position (I lowered the column a couple inches to reach it), and fishing the wires through the column itself.

Edwin also suggested picking up a spring or two from a local yard which would give one practice on a column they didn't need to have work properly and saves the $30+ for the new switch.
