I did a recent vacuum line replacement on my '97, and replaced that tube as well. It looked fine but flunked the carb cleaner test. Ordered it from the stealership, ($25) and put it on in 20 minutes, and with the replacement of the rest of the vacuum lines, the car is now amazingly smooth and jumped both city and freeway MPG by at least 5.

I finished the install on the Easy Performance AFC 3.0 yesterday. It's pretty handy to have. It puts the control in the cabin as opposed to by the throttle body. Easier to use, and should have much improved longevity. I'd been through a 1.0 and a few 2.0's that just simply stopped working after a while, presumably from heat and/or vibration. It's meant to be hard wired into the MAF signal line, but I opted to cut the connectors off my last 2.0 and wired those onto it so I could easily unhook the 3.0 if I wanted.

Preliminary results are good. I was not able to replicate the KR situation yesterday or on my way to work today.

If it does reappear, I think there's two options I'd take.

1) Try to find a local OBD1 GM tuner to scan and figure it all out for me. I've looked around before and have never found anyone real close. Sinister Performance is (or at least was as of several years back) about 2 hours from here.

2) ZZP's throttle angle calibrator. I bought one a number of years ago, only to find out the connectors are different between SI and SII TPS's. I don't know if I still have it. I may have eBay'd it, can't remember. Anyway, it is intended to be used with larger than stock throttle bodies and fix improper mid-throttle fueling. I don't even know if it will work at all with a SI, and neither did ZZP at the time, so I intended to experiment. Maybe I can find SI TPS style connectors I can wire to it or just hardwire it in. In theory, it sounds applicable to a 92/93 to 94/96 L67 TB swap like mine.

Out of curiousity, what changes did you make? Fatten up the midrange maf settings?

Either way, good to hear it's working out for you so far.

And If you do have to go that route, Ryan (Sinister) is the man.

I set 0 Hz to 105%, then up .5% for each 1000 Hz after that. So 1000 Hz was 105.5 Hz, 2000 Hz was 106.0 Hz, and so on. Granted, it's not running at 0 Hz, so the idle range is somewhere around 106-108% I think. The MAF maxes out at 11500 Hz, which is between settings, so it should interpolate to 110.75% at the MAF max. I intend to watch closely for the frequency at redline and where it would normally give me all that KR.

I learned a few things on the way home.

The kr is still there. I got it to repeat a few times. Even with the reminder of the tank with toluene in it.

It's not always kr. Sometimes it was dumping boost without any kr at all. I'm being torque managed. I don't remember it doing this at all before, but it does remind me of us small pulley and/or gen 3 swappers from back in the day, disabling the bypass solenoid based on advice from jeffrey10x2.

The PCM can dump any percent of boost it wants, down the tenth of a percent.

I had the AFC set too high. Fuel trims were well below 128, so I split the difference and set the curve to start at 102.5% instead of 105% when I got home.

Any chance of getting a wideband?

Fuel trims are all well and good for part throttle and cruise but what your pcm does with those fuel trims plus your Gen III setup in PE mode is a big question mark.

Here's a comparison: http://tunertools.com/articles/FordMuscle.pdf

$156 for an Innovative
$154 for an AEM

Alright, well, I found the TAC I bought ages ago. So I'll research that and try it, if compatible, and see what happens.

Here's a more detailed description of how the TAC works, from emailing their support line.

Quote:
The Throttle Angle Calibrator (TAC) Module essentially intercepts and reads the voltage signal from throttle position sensor, then sends a modified voltage signal to the engine’s computer. The correction factor used depends on the input signal, i.e. throttle position. Near idle, it is 1 to 1, meaning the output signal matches the input signal. This allows the computer to see the same idle throttle position. As the signal increases (throttle is opened) the output correction factor increases to around 30% at around 50% throttle. This effectively tells the computer that at 50% true throttle position, the effective throttle position is at 65%. As the throttle signal/position continues to increase, the correction factor decreases back to a 1 to 1 at full throttle. This has full throttle still equalling the same full throttle signal as before.

So it forces the computer into a higher LV8 load cell at mid throttle.. If the tune was right at the original load cell, I wouldn't really see a need for this.

I agree, but the tune isn't right, being the off-the-shelf Hypertech 92 Tune. And since I already have the TAC, it's a much cheaper option to try first before getting a wideband and a proper tune.

The TAC seems to have little to no effect on this issue.

Does anyone know how I can force PE mode temporarily? I'd like to try that and see how it affects it.
