Lately my '97 LSS has developed what I can only describe as a metallic 'thunk' in the left front suspension. It feels like something is momentarily being dislodged and moving in a way it shouldn't. It happens when I go over a speed bump or maybe hit an uneven spot in the pavement, but it's not consistent. It happens one out of maybe every three or four times. There is a series of three speed bumps at the gate of my apartment complex with another one a short distance inside (excessive, I know) and usually I get one, or at the most two 'thunks' out of that series.

Should I be concerned? The car drives and handles fine, but it came out of the Northeast and I've already fixed a couple of rust-related issues (fuel and brake lines), so I'm being pretty vigilant for additional problems.

several years back the ole green '92 I have was doing about the same thing. It was the strut mounts. I'm not saying that's what's wrong with yours. You'll need to do a through front suspension/steering inspection to locate the culprit. It may or may not be unsafe. Only the inspection will tell. just my 2 cents - BC

Something that I have an issue with right now is strut bearings. If I turn slow I can hear a pop/thud coming from my front left. If you want to check it, have someone turn your wheel and then you watch your spring on the front shock. If it moves smoothly while turning, its fine. If it kinda jumps positions while turning, its shot.
