So now another problem has just started.

I drove it and if you push it in 1st gear, you can hear and feel a grinding growling noise. Could it be a trani mount?

I don't think so. The trani seems to work fine. It feels like a vibration of a mount or something hitting the frame. :???:

We are still planning on taking it 500 miles out of town in another day. :bluetwitch:

I guess the Grizz is going to be in the lead so you don't lose site of him.

Should be fun through Seattle.

I hear there is a great trans shop in Arlington.

So back to the noise.

It is only there when the engine is under very high load in 1st gear and goes away in second gear. So it's not always there in 1st gear, only if you give it some pedal.
More groaning or something vibrating the frame, than grinding.

Come on.....tell me it will last for another 1000 miles...... :hail:

Well, if you can get it down to Oregon we can all try to help diagnose the issue.

Maybe try lifting it on some jackstands and then run the wheels a little to see if you can create the same noise, and then try to locate it?

Dont' bring the Grizz down here. That is a trans issue. There's no point driving 500 miles only to have it fail before it can be properly diagnosed.

That's a trans issue, Paul. Any grinding in an auto trans is death. Do not bring that car. It'll cost either you or me in the end. I can't afford it, and you don't want to.

Until you KNOW what it is, park it.

Back in the day, mine would make a grinding sound in 1st. Turns out my subframe was bent and everything in there was out of line. Uhhh... don't ask.

We went for a drive today and it's not a grinding noise, it's more like the noise my trans mount made when it went in my Jeep. Under high load in 1st gear only.

It's packed and so am I.
Too late we're going.
If it breaks down, we leave it there and pick it up next year. :bluetwitch:

Personally I don't think it will break. Positive suggestion.

Paul, I can't have another car here. They tow cars that don't move in a 72 hour period. I can't give up my driveway space, as it blocks a car in the garage, and you can't have it on the street in front of my house for more than 72 hours.

If you think there's a chance of it breaking, just don't bring it. It's not practical. What do you do if it breaks down at the dragstrip? You've already found trans parts in the pan previously. I don't think that car should go out of town.

Decision made.
Took it for another drive. :angry7:

It's 10:30 pm and I have just repacked the trunk.

No race tires.

No Grizz.

At this point Paul I think that is a good decision. I know it is probably disappointing. I would hate for you to have a bad trip down here with a breakdown.

Good luck, and I hope it is something simple like a tranny mount. That's the way things go, just when you don't have time to work on it. Just the other day the moon roof failed in the 00 and I don't want to drop the headliner just before WCBF. (drop headliner, trim etc. = weight loss?, not to that point,........yet)

Any ways, have a good and safe trip and feel free to call if you need anything. Remember I will have a headstart by 2 hrs of anyone in Corvallis.

I had the EXACT same thing when I baught my '92, it turned out to be a bad front trans mount.
