I have a 1999 Buick Lesabre that was in a side impact wreck but everything under the hood works and i have a 1992 buick park avenue that i got from my brother who said it has a knock in the motor. Now im not a mechanic but i know a few so i wanted to know could i swap the motor from the 1999 lesabre to the 1992 park avenue....if it helps the park avenue was a super chager and both r 3.8 liter blocks....anything else that u need to know i will do my best to answer. thank you in advance.

The 2 engines are worlds apart. You would be doing a series 2 swap, where you would also need to transfer computer, transmission, etc.

Is it possible? Yes, but you would want a supercharged 91-95 for direct swappability.

Given what i have how would i best do the swap....trying to hopefully use what i have to do this where i have limited funds at the moment. I was told by someone else that if i just swap the block with out swaping the whole motor i could hook up all the electronics and everthing to it since they are both 3.8 blocks but i dont know if it can be done.

I am not sure on the exact swap details, but it is a pretty tall order, you would have to swap computers, motors, etc.

Honestly, it would be easier to trade/sell/part out the wrecked car and get the actual engine you need.

But, I will let the experts outline what is needed to swap over.

You would need to swap the engine, trans, and computer harness, maybe the whole sub frame would be easier, and have the service manuals handy to make an adapter for the firewall pass-through so everything works. This will take a few long weekends, and you need a lot of patience and tools. It can be done, but is a lot of work. The block is not the same between series 1 and series 2. The transmission is not the same. The computer is not the same.

If you were comfortable with OBD1 tuning, this swap could be fairly simple.

The stock 92 pcm could start and run an L36 but it would need a bit of tuning to run well.

Swapping an L36 into a Series I L67 is going to be tricky. It'll need the harness, computer, and some custom tuning at a minimum.

Learn from the mistakes of others, that way when you mess up you can do so in new and interesting ways.

Part out the 99, take the money and use it for the 92.

Keep in mind I'm playing devil's advocate here. I feel confident that I could complete this swap without a ton of trouble but I've been doing my own tuning for a while now. I wouldn't suggest it unless you knew these engines well and had access to tuning.

The 92 would be easier than a 93 since the 92 L27 didn't have an egr. The 93 egr is operated differently than the 94+ too.
A/C functionality might be tricky since the 92 PCM wouldn't be able to operate any 94-95 or 96+ compressor. You might be forced to delete it or you could get lucky with the 92 compressor bracket/lines working with the L36.

If you took the stock 92 harness, you could use it by splicing in the different MAF/TPS/Knock sensor pigtails and extending wires where necessary. The stock pcm and L27 memcal can start and run a L36.. just not well and it would need to be tuned from there.

Mechanically, you would need the Lesabre's throttle cables, heater hoses, and passenger side engine mount.

The easiest Series 2 into OBD1 car swaps are the 94/95s due to the 95 having an L36. My 95 was a S1L67 car that now has a L36.
