I was working on the engine today and i noticed cracks on my firewall. If you lightly touch it, it flakes aff and crumples under my fingers. Is there any way to prevent this or will i have to deal with it?

No, i am talking about the plastic coating on the firewall. It seems there is foam behind it?

I doubt any 92-99 has ever had the firewall rust out or crumple.

What you're seeing is the plastic and insulation to the blower box deteriorating. (see yellow above)

I believe this is mainly to keep engine bay heat out of the HVAC system. 92's that I've seen don't even have this insulation, just a bare box.

I had mine ceramic coated to act as a thermal barrier and protect it from rust due to any moisture it may see.

There's not much you can do outside of aluminum ducting tape, or rip it all out and/or coat it.

Do nothing. It won't affect anything until well after the rest of the car is ready to retire.

I had it done at a powdercoating/ceramic coating place. It's advertised to withstand up to 2000*F.
I forget what the price was though.
