This issue came up in my head when I was getting my oil changed this week. I have no idea when, if at all, the transmission fluid has been changed. The transmission seems to be running fine, granted fine for being a 13 year old car, but I don't notice any gear slipping or anything odd. I thought about getting the transmission flushed or fluid changed. I heard good things and bad things from people who changed the fluid in their transmission. Should I get the fluid changed or flushed? Is there a guideline I should follow to determine whether or not I should get the fluid changed? Any help is appreciated.

Check the condition. Does it smell burnt or dark in color? If it is not a bright reddish color, I would just do a pan drop and filter change and skip the flush.

Unless it gets flushed with only new fluid I concur with the previous post.

Make sure you use an oem or better quality filter, and carry on for another 100k + miles. If you decide to tow or otherwise start giving the car some hard work change the oil more frquently.

Roger.

There has and always will be a big debate over flushing or just a fluid and filter change. It is going to be something you will have to decide.

IMHO, if there is nothing wrong with the functioning of it and the fluid is just dark, I would just do the fluid and filter change.

I'm pretty sure that my 99 was the same situation as yours. It had 98,000 on it when I got it.
Since then I have done 2 pan drops and fluid changes. The 1st was a fluid and filter change. The 2nd came not that many miles later but that was because I wanted to do the homemade shift kit (same as the Transgo kit). I have had no issues and the tranny is shifting great.

So I figure that I have about all the fluid changed to fresh stuff now. :)

Bing, unless you put springs in also, the DIY shift kit is not the same as the TransGo. The DIY kit is spacers only.

I concur with the pan drop and filter change.

Not true, I changed the 1-2 spring with a 2-3 spring in the accumulator.

Ahh, so yours really is more like the TransGo than the traditional DIY shift kit. Notice my qualifying "unless you put springs in". Sounds like a more affordable option for most folks than the $70 TransGo.

I didn't mean to sound condescending in my reply, I see how it could be taken that way, I'm sorry about that.

This was the article that I followed, Harofreak00 brought this to my attention. He did this for one of his flips to fix/lessen the PCS problem.

4T60E, you have the vaccum modulator that you can adjust/replace.

So that is the extent of it, no internals?

Not without doing a full rebuild.

I don't believe so.

I just went and bought a new one (I think like $15).

5 minutes and one bolt later it's done.

Then there is a little screw in the end of it, that you can turn to adjust the shifts (firmer or softer).
