well my 95 bonnie is acting up again. doing the same things it did when i had to replace the last 4 pcm's. yes im on my 5th one in the 6 yrs i had the car.

i went thru 4 pcm's within the 1st year. and then i got lucky with the 5th one which said gm refurbished on it when i pulled it out of the junk yard and it lasted me 5 years.

well the last 3 weeks the car has been doing the random accelerating on its own again, even with my foot on the brake.

no check engine lights just like last time either so im almost 99.9% sure its time for a new pcm.

i no i need to swap and use my original eprom, but i forgot what year(s) the pcm will work from in my 95 series II obd 1.5 ?

thanks. and besides this she been running like a champ ever since i found out i was missing the mysterious pcv valve o ring.lol.

1994 or 1995 ONLY. And if your car is eating that many PCM's, you have a deeper problem.

I would say either electrical or another factor like excessive moisture or heat damaging the unit over time

I'm running the factory PCM and eprom in my 95 and have never had a problem. I've never known another member to need more than one replacement. Common sense dictates you have a deeper problem. Grounds, electrical problems wreaking havoc on the PCM, over charging or under charging, etc.

Your PCM may be the victim of the actual problem. I'd be asking myself that question if I'd been through more than 2.

Is this the car that has had all the stereo equipment in it?

yes the car had had 5000 watts rms power. i did have extra batteries and bigger alternator in it. but i took everything out when i gave my wife the car last year.

and will, you said heat n moisture. my firewall suprisingly is shot in the bonneville. i dont no why but its toast. half broken and craced and brittle.

could the heat from the engine be causing the pcm issues. i would have never thought that it can get that hot where the pcm is. i mean its right under the heating ducts so i would assume it can handle the extra heat.

It's pretty safe to say any electronics getting considerably hotter than it's supposed to can cause premature failure. 1995 was known as a problem year with the PCM. The one in my car (when I took it out) has "Remanufactured by Delco" markings on it, never had a single issue with it other than when I got the car I found it was installed backwards and hanging down onto the black kick panel making it sag. As far as moisture, take it out and remove the connections to it and inspect...do any of them have a greenish tinge to them?

Look under the eprom for water damage. Fix your firewall with sheet metal, rivets, and sealant. That's a very critical safety device, not to mention structural. If my firewall was as you describe, I wouldn't let my wife drive the car or let my kids ride in it.

Bad grounds can cause PCM confusion, but cannot by themselves DAMAGE a PCM. Most inputs to the pcm from sensors have overcurrent protection, but not over-voltage protection. The only thing I can tell you is to start digging, because I'm pretty sure your PCM's are the victims, not the culprits.

What's cracked and brittle is the cover to the blower box for HVAC. It's not structural.
I think it's more to keep heat out of the HVAC system.
I've seen 92s that never even came with the plastic and fiberglass cover.

o.k please bare with me i just got over being sick and am dealing with my bonneville and my suburban issues at once.lol.

i cant be down 2 out of 3 cars at the same time.

so tomorrow i will pull the computer and check the connections that are plugged into it on the actual pcm and on the wire harness clips that actually plug into it. then i will also open it and check the board and under the eprom for moisture or discoloration. im pretty good with fixing and working on electronic boards so i should be able to physically spot if anything looks wrong.

i will update on that tomorrow when i do it.

also i forgot to mention that i do have a crack in my air intake hose that goes to the throttle body from the air box.

and also noticed that my car has been idiling at 1400 rpms when cold and 1000 rpms when warned up about 10-15 mins later.

could the high idle be from cracked air intake hose ? or ? thanks.

Idle should be lower than that, but it also depends on where you are getting the RPM reading from, our gauges aren't always 100% accurate.

If the crack is before the MAF, the computer is still reading the air and it will not effect the idle.

I was going to mention that, but, on our year Series II the MAF is part of the TB in essence, so pretty much has to be before.

All stock 3800s have the MAF in the TB.

ok so i went and got another pcm from a 95 se with 108k on the dash. car was rear ended.

i swapped my eprom into the new computer i just got and put it in my car. as soon as i started it up, the check engine light has came on and has been permanetly on ever since. ( 4 days ago ).

but the car drives good now. it dont have the random rev issuse as if im stepping on the gas anymore. it has not did it once since i put this pcm in but whats up with the check engine light ?

i have to find my actron scanner and my slug made cables and see if they will work on this pcm since they did not work on the previous one..

i never had a check engine light with the previous pcm so i really dont no why it came on with the current pcm and wont go away.

its permanetly on sonce the new pcm was put in 4 days ago..

any ideas ? and if my actron scanner n slug cables dont work, i might just have to get another pcm, or pay $50 to have this obd 1.5 crap scanned at a local shop..

You'll have to scan. There's no way to know otherwise.

ok thanks bro, im going to look for my scanner when i get home today. if i cant find it soon enough i will take the car in to get scanned.

but is there a difference between a check engine lights thats on 100% of the time and a light that just randomly comes n goes. ?
