My heads up works fine but I can't get it to move up and down. I've tried moving very slowly but will on move a tiny bit up at the start then doesn't move anymore as I move the adjustment up - any ideas on this? My car monitor also started flashing and going off and back on - I'm assuming a short somewhere in it's wiring - are there any common areas to look at - the three guages over near it are reading unusal also which may be a grounding issue also. Thanks

DIC first. A short would likely blow a fuse. You have an intermittent connection. Remove the cluster, disassemble it board by board (carefully) and put it back together. That will probably do it.

While it's out, you can inspect the mechanical cable between the adjust lever and HUD.

the height adjustment in the HUD is a sort of potentiometer. i suppose it either needs replacement or cleaning. junkyards in some places will give the entire control module away at least around here. should just unplug easily (if you remove the wood facing first)

That is incorrect. In 92 and 93, it's a mechanical cable. Later years were an electric motor. Go play with yours. You can actually feel it pulling on the HUD when you adjust it. If yours is truly electrical, it was replaced at some time in the past with a HUD from a newer car.

Most Bonnevilles don't have the fake wood trim, either. You should call it the dash trim, or dash bezel.

on mine Will ('92 SSE) it has both the woodgrain and the pot (in fact the height switch feels just like the dimmer one.

I can guarantee you that the height adjust on your car was originally cable driven. If it's not, someone swapped it at some point as I stated above. I've been into far more of these cars than you, and for many, many years. 92 and 93 were absolutely mechanical in adjustment from the factory.

Pull yours. If you find only wires and not a cable/rod, it's been changed. You might be surprised by what you find. In the meantime, I'm doing my best to make sure the OP gets accurate information to help him.
