Year and Trim: 1997 SSEI
1997 SSEI transmission is on it's way out. I've spent several evenings searching the forums and other places trying to figure out how to source a suitable used transmission to swap it with. At this point I'm more than a bit unclear on makes/models/trims might be suitable donors.

What I know (or at least what I think I know):
My 1997 SSEI transmission - 4T65E-HD 2.93:1 MN7 {XX}7YWB

According to Wikipedia the 4T65E-HD 2.93:1 MN7 can be found in:
Pontiac Bonneville SSEi L67
Chevrolet Impala L67
Chevrolet Monte Carlo L67
Pontiac Grand Prix GTP/GXP
Buick Regal GS
Buick Riviera L67 (97-99)

Searching www.car-part.com for Transmission for 97 Bonneville w/ SC results are exclusively 1997s from Bonnevilles, Park Avenues(?), Regals (ok, makes sense), and Olds 88s(?). Yet, when I make the same search for a transmission for a 97 Regal "w/ supercharger opt (4T65E)", results include Grand Prix transmissions... This begs the question, WTF?

Any suggestions for how I can nail down which donor cars to search for?

Also, I've seen it mentioned a few times that it's possible to take a 4T65E, swap the diff and diff cover and have a HD in the end.
If that's the case...

1. How hard is it to swap the diff and cover? As a mechanic, I'm perfectly comfortable with most anything short of a transmission rebuild (although I'll be looking into my first once I swap out the dying unit on my car and find some free time). Any chance there's a thread that covers such a swap?

2. Don't know much about gearing, so if I can swap the diff and the cover onto a non-HD 4T65E, what other than 2.93:1 can I be looking at?

Glad to finally join the club! The forum is a wealth of information.

The W-Bodies' (Grand Prix, Regal) have a different mounting setup and a different transmission case, making those transmissions incompatible with your car. It's the same guts, with a little different on the outside.

I thought the case was the same on all 4t65e (HD) trans, only different brackets and which mounting holes are used?
