Decided to take my car in for an R134A recharge with dye. The system cools, just not cold enough to justify the gas mileage penalty. Its been about 8 yrs since last recharge. Mechanic quoted me $95.00 for up to 1 lb of Freon which includes return visit for UV dye detection. According to mechanic, any loss of Freon indicates leak somewhere. However it was posted here that the system will normally lose x amount of Freon per year. I'm hoping that there are no leaks and its just normal loss over time.

I'm not taking it in until next week. Let you know the results.

Not sure why it took me to this point to notice. But no wonder the car doesn't cool down, :banghead: The passenger vents blow outside air, while the drivers side blows cold AC. Same for the Defrost, drivers side AC - passenger side outside air. My vehicle has manual climate controls (not automatic) Someone want to chime in on the fix for this, I'll use the search engine in the meantime.

After reading up on this problem, many have said that low refrigerant level could cause warm air one side. So I purchased a R134A can and hose kit at Advanced Auto parts

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... 2004A_____

Entered code A123 and saved $10.00 by paying on the net and picking up in store.

This product contains R134A, lubricating oil and stop leak.

Following the instructions, I checked the pressure with the supplied gauge this morning. At 65deg, the pressure should read 25-35 psi. The pressure barely read 25 psi, so I proceeded to add some R134A and got the pressure up to about 27psi. Results after adding half a can are that the system appears to be functioning normally. I'll check the pressure later today when its much hotter outside and again probably in a few days. If at 80 deg the pressure reads below 40 psi, then I'll add some more.

yeah thats the same can i bought. good stuff.
just dont buy the stuff that you have to screw the guage/hose assembly onto the top of the can (the kind that you have to puncture the can yourself). i did and i wasted 2 cans trying to get it to screw on, only to have it go partially on and crooked, and puncturing the seal causeing it to shoot all over the place haha

douellette88,

What were your results after using this product.

I got the psi only up to 32 @ 76 deg- wouldn't go any higher, but it quickly fell back to 25 psi. That was after dumping in the entire can over 3 spaced intervals. I must have a leak, but maybe this stuff will seal it. Knew I should have gone to mechanic...but its blowing cold now both sides. So at-least I ruled out a stuck door, actuator motor, vacuum line problem. BTW, I checked the colored vacuum lines under passenger side dash- all look good.

i tried filling mine, and it will only go to a certain amount of pressure and then wont go any higher. compressor doesnt turn off and on, just stays constantly engaged, it blows colder now, but pass side feels a tad bit warmer than driver side. also i can the ac line sweating like its supposed to.

anyone have a solution?
