The PCM on that car will be inside the passenger side foot well hush panel. I havent done it in years, but i belive its just retained in there with a spring like plasic clip

Yup, Matt has it right. 5 minute job to remove. Helps to have a spare handy.

I do have a spare, but it won't do you any good where you are. :dontknow:

I put a hold on the CPS and ordered the PCM.
$350...ouch.

It will be here in the morning.
I'm taking it into the dealer anyways to have them give it a full check up with the Tech II.

We stopped into a kitchen store on the way back home today and my wife couldn't resist getting her a new SS cookware set....double ouch!!

I'm ready to leave as soon as the "Earth Child" has been resurrected and morphed from being a Grizz.

OMG....she thinks her water broke.....

Holy crap! Did you order from the dealer? I got mine at NAPA, remanufactured, half that price.

I went to Napa first. They wanted $375. The dealer was less expensive by $35!

Correction. Napa had an "economy" PCM for $225. Their "premium" PCM was $375.
The GM dealer told me their $340 units were OEM and not China remans like Napa's. Ya, I believed him. :dontknow:

For that price, I sure hope that's what the problem is.

That's OK, I'll blame you if it isn't. :P

One way or the other, I'm determined to get this car back into safe running condition.

New disc/I-pod/flash drive player now too.

I also got an inline coolant heater for it that I'll install tomorrow.

Hopefully the Tech II will tell me which wheel speed sensor is bad. The growling from the wheel bearings is tough to determine which side it's on. I bought two bearing hub assemblies all the same and will do both again if need be.

I would hope so as well...

Paul that code 361 is actually P1361, most tools will not read it as a 1361... Not sure why..

More than most of the time when you have a 1361 the PCM ends up being the culprit... Hope the new PCM will cure that..

I will never know if it was truly the PCM or the ICM.
Both are new now.
A testiment to my love of Pontiac......and my daughter. Don't even ask how much it cost me this last week.

They told me that the EBCM was bad. $1,300 to replace it. [-X The car will not have ABS or TC but that's OK, Chynna doesn't mind and knows how to thresh-hold brake.
I've warned her about doing one wheel dog legs around corners to save the diff.

They also told me the RF wheel bearing was bad and quoted 2.5 hrs to replace it, plus 1.25 hours for the wheel speed sensor.....but that the WSS was still good. :???:

Wait, huh? 1.25 hours for the WSS? Isn't that integrated into the hub? Or am I confusing that with my car?

Yeah, the WSS is the hub, and vice versa.

I know. Exactly. The wheel speed sensor IS integrated into the hub.
That's why I didn't trust them. When they told me that, I knew right away they were trying to walk all over me.
It may well have been the PCM which I had to purchase the day before so the ICM might have been OK but hey, now we don't have to worry about it failing for the next few years.
When I complained about the 1/2 hour charge to re-install the PCM, they removed it. LOL
When I complained about the $500 cost for the ICM, they gave me a 10% discount on the labour and parts.
When I got it back home, I had to remove the hush panels because they forgot to re-insert the floor lights.

I'm going to change the RF wheel hub myself and if the anti-lock brakes work after that, we'll know for sure that this dealer was blowing smoke out of his rump, LOL.

Taking the Grizz for run to the Mall in a few to put it to the test.

The Grizz has been resurrected and is running strong again. Just in time too. She went into labour the next day and it drove her to the hospital just in time to deliver our first Grandchild!

The bad news is I could not break the hub nut free so couldn't replace the hub/bearing/WSS.
If you remember, I had replaced both front hubs a couple years ago, then last year that same hub bearing that is bad now failed again when I was out of town. I had to take it to the dealer, who hosed me $500 to replace it! :banghead: Those SOB's overtorqued the hub nut when they replaced it. Wouldn't surprise me if that's why it failed again after only a year.
Using a cheater pipe, I broke my 1/2" wrench trying to break that nut.
I told my daughter to have her mechanic change it out before summer ends and left her with two new hubs.

The coolant heater install went well and it takes only 2 hours to heat the coolant from 60F to 180F.

Total spent on Grizz this time was.....

$1,800. :banghead:

Do I have to tell you how much we like Bonnevilles.......

Yes, that was my logic.
Besides it's a great year for Pontiac Bonnevilles and we love those AL7 seats......and the engine only has 10,000 miles on it with all new brakes, if you ignore the lack of ABS now.

I was impressed how well Chynna drove it too. Very careful driver. Must take after her mom. :dontknow:
