My front motor/trans mount on my 95 has been bad for a while, but the weather
here has been horrible so I kept putting it off. And putting it off.

Well we had a beautiful weekend so I went to work:

Old front mount:

I decided to do the driver's side ball joint while I was at it, because the boot was torn and I
was constantly greasing it for fear it was gonna let go sometime.

Sooooo...... while I had the wheel knuckle and strut moved out of the way I noticed this:

It appears the engine has moved so much that the flange on the transaxle cover plate
was hitting the steering rack bellows that covers the inner tie rod: :banghead:

Luckily it's not too hard to replace and I was able to grease that side of the rack
under the bellows.

BTW, yes I checked my other mounts, after seeing the engine had this much movement,
and they are bad as well. So they will get changed the next warm weekend.
And I do mean "next". Really, I do.

It's a good warning for anybody either ignoring or just putting maintenance off. We need to take care of our cars and try and catch any problems that arise as soon as they start. I found the same one bad in my car after I pulled the motor. Thinking now I should just replace all of them and have a fresh start. Thanks for the reminder and pics.

On my '92, the rear transmission mount under the drivers feet took me (and my son in his spare time) three months to replace due to the lack of clearance between the engine/transmission/frame. It was a nightmare. I loosened all the mounts and jacked the drivetrain up. I even called the dealer and I was told to loosen all the mounts and slide the drivetrain forward - LMAO - sure - still not enough room. I had to grind off one stud on the mount so it was just a little longer than the nut was thick - I do not recommend doing this.

The engine mount and the transmission mount you replaced are fairly easy to do. I can do the one you pictured in 15 minutes or so.

Good luck and I hope you don't face the same problem I did. - BC

WOW - I estimated it took me about two hours, not counting cleanup time.
I am so slow. But at least I rarely have to re-do a repair, so I get points for
being thorough.

Nothing wrong with slow and steady. As long as you can do it yourself your only saving money.
