Curious, will it be worth installing a dashboard with the floor shifter in my car? i current have the steering wheel shifter. reason i asked because im getting my evap core replace soon and the shop was like they would have to completely remove the whole dashboard. i always did like the flooor shifter lol. One more question, is the dashboard a cover or its like a complete assembly?

When I was in high school, a buddy of mine had a LeMans with a bench front seat and column shifter. He put a Hurst floor shifter in it, but it took some major work to do it. I'd think converting your Bonneville from column shift to floor shift would be an equally complex operation. You'd have to change out the steering column to get rid of the column shifter and change the shift linkage. You'd also have to swap out the split bench seat for buckets to make room for the center console. Although I agree with your preference for the center console and floor shifter, I think the conversion wouldn't be worth the trouble or the expense.

If you have access to a donor car to get all the parts you will need, sure why not. Otherwise, its going to be a headache.

It has been done before years ago by a previous member.

THANKS TO YOU BOTH. BUT I CAN EASILY FIND A DONOR CAR. SO THE MAIN THING I WILL NEED IS THE STEERING COLUMN, AND THE DASH ASSEMBLY CORRECT? OF COURSE THE NEW DRIVER SEAT. ALONG WITH THE FLOOR SHIFT. ANYTHING ELSE IM MISSING? REASON WHY I WANT THIS CHANGE IS BECAUSE A SHOP IS CHANGING MY HEAT AND EVAP CORE FOR 300 BUCKS AND I WAS LIKE HEY IF YALL HAVE TO PULL OUT THE WHOLE DASH WHY NOT PUT A DIFFERENT ONE IN LOL

Off hand, I don't remember if they have to really take the dash all the way out. Seems like they only have to get the dash far enough out to get access to it. If you don't have Climate Control or a passenger side air bar (SIR), then they just have to get it loose. There is a lot to just getting the dash out if you have the dual SIR and Climate Control. It's a real job, I know cause I helped my son get it out of my SSE to install a new heater core - the third one to go out.

While I'm thinking of it, make sure the heater core gets grounded with a ground strap in the off chance the failure is caused by stray electrical current. Also, make sure they don't mess up the actuator "cam" on the air dam door. If they do then the adjustable rod won't stay on. - BC

I think it's going to be a bigger undertaking than you might imagine. There's a TON of work involved, including seats, controls, console, wiring in the dash to be re-routed, etc. Then you have to figure out what to do with your column. Take the lever off, or replace the whole thing? Shifter cables have to be re-routed, etc.

I got your private message. We discourage the use of PM's for help. We like to keep it in public so others can contribute and learn from the discussion.

It is not under the hood like from years ago. It can only be accessed from under the dash. Only the hose connections are under the hood - BC
