How many and where are they? I can see the little one in front with the tiny shock absorber-like on it but is there one somewhere else? And someone mentioned before that the earlier one without the shock is cheaper and just as functional. True?

I'm getting some engine rocking when I torqued it up in drive so that's this 4-day weekend's project.

Thanks!

There's that one in the front, the torque axis mount by the pulleys, the dogbone underneath on the passenger side, and I think there's another on the driver's side somewhere. The first three I mentioned are the common failures.

There's the strut mount in front, the dogbone in back, and the "forgotten" mount on the backside of the transmission underneath the master cylinder. So 3 transmission mounts.

Using the Advance discount codes I posted, the strut mount was $45 with a lifetime warranty.

I think my "forgotten" mount is bad. Too bad it involves dropping the subframe to replace, otherwise I'd have a try at replacing it.

EDIT: No, it doesn't involve dropping the subframe. My mis-informed state has been corrected. ;)

I replaced the dogbone about 15K ago (boy, it was thrashed, rubber completely gone) with no effect. The torque mount on the pulley side seems OK. Guess I'll take it off and inspect it.

Thanks for your quick reply.

The shock mount is likely the culprit. The 93-95 front mounts don't have the shock and are cheaper, but aren't as strong as the later mounts.

IIRC you just have to disassemble the plate from the rear mount, remove that, and then there's room to take the mount out.

Aside from taking the wheel off IMO it's not much more work than a front mount.

The subframe does NOT need to be dropped. (confiriming the post above).

A little patience and common sense will lead to the mount being changed. It is called the rear transmission mount. The non-shock 92/93 front transmission mount should be good for about 5 years or more on an L36 (unmodded), would be cheaper, and is far easier to change.
