My AC compressor in my 95 is dead and has been for several years.
It is the second compressor in that car, but when the side housing
cracked and started oozing oil I decided not to replace it again. That
was a few years ago.

I don't drive the vehicle much in the summer for this reason and
the compressor has been unplugged.

Now the pulley is making bad rattling noises and a few times yesterday I
heard a screech which I thought were tire chirps but think maybe it was
the belt fighting a non-spinning pulley. I still need to investigate that, and
I'm not driving it for fear the AC pulley is ready to lock up.

What are my options here?
I never fixed the compressor because of cost obviously. I can't do AC work myself.

Is it possible to bypass with a different belt?
Is it feasible to fix the compressor pulley/clutch cheaply to make the belt work?
Should I bite the bullet and replace the compressor?

Any parts store should be able to sell you an AC bypass pulley. That will take care of your problems on the cheap.

I didn't know those were available, I thought you had to custom
make one at home. I'm assuming the compressor is removed
and the pulley bolts right up in the same holes/bracket. :dontknow:
