We are working on my sons lesabre tonight and seem to be missing somthing...a brake line rusted out --no problem ,we got it all replaced, bled all four wheels, and just cant get a decent pedal. It does have abs.Could the master have failed by being emtied by the open line?Should we bleed the lines at the master? What am i missing here?

You might have air in the master cylinder where it doesn't belong.

If the M/C went empty, you're going to have to bleed it.

If the M/C was run dry, it probably has an air bubble in it. You need to get some fittings that screw into the outlets, hook some vinyl tubing onto them and back into the reservoir and pump the pedal till bubbles stop coming out of the tubes. Then you can hook the lines up and re-bleed all the lines. Go to a parts store and say you need a bleeder kit for a master cylinder. They'll probably have one.

When you unhook the lines from the master cylinder, press the brake pedal all the way down and hold it there with something till you have the other lines hooked up. Then bleed them all again after you get it all hooked back up.

You will also want to be sure that the master cylinder is level when bled, usually best on a workbench with a vise. Unless you can get the car situated so that it is level, bleed the MC as outlined above, bolt the lines back up, then bleed the lines.

Mine is still worth $4-$5K for insurance purposes and I am considering scrapping it. Actually leaving the doors open in the mall and praying for a theft would be nice. One little thing after another and some not so little issues. Lots of little things need to be done to my 01 SSEi. I guess you have to really love the car to consider putting what the entire car is worth into one repair. Maybe buy another for $1200-$1500 and keep yours for parts on the new one? Heaven knows these cars like to use up parts on a regular basis, I am not sure what's worse some days, owning a boat or this Bonneville. BY far the most expensive and troublesome car to maintain I have ever owned. I get much of the labor for free and I'm still considering giving up on it, what's that say? Great engine, but Mickey Mouse and his friends at Disney built the rest of it. Maybe Fisher Price even had a hand at assembling these 01's?

wug, I'm not sure how your post relates to this topic. Do you have a brake issue on a 92-99 generation?
