Thinking about having another go at my oil leak. First of all about 2 yrs ago I thought the oil was leaking from the oil pan gasket so I changed it but as soon as I let it run for a few minutes then shut it off the oil started dripping again. Looks like the oil is coming from above the oil filter then runs down and drips off of it.
I think its coming from the front main seal but not absolutely positive.
Has anyone tackled this job ?How hard is it to change ?

Thanks :)

It might be coming from the oil filter adapter or the front cover. The front seal usually leaks as the car is running and is very slow unless it is severely damaged. Did you use some sealant in the corners of the oil pan gasket when you replaced it.

Clean up the underside really well and then watch it to see where it is coming from.

Its been a few years but I spent extra time in the prep of the surfaces and used a dealer gasket but I can't remember if I used silicone in the corners. I would have followed the factory repair manual.
I had the oil filter adapter off and replaced the gasket but I'll check it again.
It seems to leak oil after the engine is off so I'm not sure if that is a shaft seal. I'll give it good cleaning and have another look.

On a side note last week I changed the front transmission mount and exhaust seal (donut). I developed a exhaust leak at the front of the motor about 8 months ago but finally made the time to fix it. Over the years the car also developed a vibration or more like the feel of the engine through the floor.
Wasn't sure what this was until I looked at the exhaust donut and thought the manifold and exhaust flange were on quite an angle to each other.

That lead me to think the front on the motor (closes to the rad) had dropped. The tranny mount looked fine but when I had the wife put the car in drive with the brakes on and give it a little you could see that the rubber mount had seperated from the metal when the torque of the engine lifted that side.

So replaced everything tranny mount ($175) and donut ($28) what a difference it made. The car feels smother.quicker and quiet.

Good work. With future parts, you may want to order from RockAuto.com. You can save a lot of money getting your parts there.
