Hi all
So went to jump in my car and it won't start. Fuel pump is kicking on battery is fine no blown fuses can hear the starter relay clicking on but the car just won't turn over. Tried to jump the starter and it will catch but the car won't stay running.

Any ideas?

You'd need to check if there is any fuel pressure actually being generated. With the car off, press the fuel rail test port needle to relieve any pressure. Try to start the car, then press it again to see if pressure came up.

Then, put 194 size bulb in one of the fuel injector connectors to see if it flashes when you try to start the car. If it doesn't, you aren't getting a signal to the injectors, which could indicate the crank position sensor.

Then, check for spark. Remove a spark plug, put it back in the plug wire boot, hold the boot of the plug and press the threads of the plug against the block or the lifting eye on the front head, and have someone crank the engine and look for spark.

Oh, I missed that it won't even turn over...

Check the battery connections and the connections to the starter for corrosion.

Sounds like a problem with VATS.

Try tightening the positive battery cable's bolt. It can work loose, and leave your car functional except not starting. This has happened about 3-4 times to me. Finally I got fed up and replaced the bolt for $3.

Here's a video from a redneck Canadian. I didn't know there was such an animal!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKfn7J9CeZM

It sounds like a vats problem because you said it starts & then quickly dies when you jump the starter. However the security light should start flashing a few seconds after turning the key to the run position. So I'm not 100% sure you really have a problem with the VATS security system.

I'm sorry with the key forward the light is flashing the whole time.. so I guess it is the vats.. does the keyless entry still work if I do the fix in the video? And would it still be a orange wire in a 92 ssei?

Yes, the keyless entry will still work.

It's actually an orange plastic tube with two white wires insde. After cutting the wires you need to connect the resistors to the wires that go up under the dash to the VATS module. The other two wires that go up the steering column can just be left hanging there. There's no power to those wires after they've been cut.

If you have a spare key then instead of using resistors you can just hold the wires to each side of the resistor pellet in the key & then start the car with the other key. After it starts let go of the wires & the security light should come on. You should now be able to start the car without the resistors or spare key. The only problem with this method is the security will stay on while driving.

If you have a spare key then try starting with that key before cutting any wires, maybe you'll get lucky.

I found a cluster of thick wires that's wrap kinda around the under side of the colum. Would that be what I'm lookin for?

Is your ignition in your dash or in your steering column? I am asking this as I am having a similar issue, and my ignition switch is in the column.

Mine is also in the column. Had to pull the airbag steering wheel and a few other parts. It was a little trickie to solder new wires in cause you dont have much room work.
