The starter just died. :angry4:

Less than 3 years since I had it rebuilt and only 10 K miles!!!!!

I can't let Chynna take it until it gets fixed. :angry7:

Pulling it out and have to take it in.

I pick Chynna up at the airport in two hours!!!!!!

Got to run......... :eek2:

I had it rebuilt when I did the engine rebuild, I'm not sure if it was the original.
All I can do this time is have that same unit rebuilt again.

Dig up my rebuild thread. I posted a pic of it in there. Is it a geared unit?? I don't know. It looked like a regular starter. I don't know what a geared unit looks like. :???:

When I was searching the local parts stores, one guy said there were two different starters. One was REAL expensive. Probably the geared unit.

Darn, darn, darn. Still gonna cost me. :angry7:

I spoke too soon about it running so well lately...... :angry4:

You think I would learn to keep my big mouth shut!!!!! :-#

Yup, it's 1:1. Gear-reduced is *supposed* to be on there, but those work just fine.

Ya that's what I think it is.
The original owner must have unknowingly changed it out.

Like I hope he also had the trani rebuilt at some past time.

A 1:1 standard unit won't last as long while trying to overcome two tensioned belt paths. A gear-reduced will outlast a non every time.

I suppose that's why it only lasted 3 years and 10K miles.

Well it's rebuilt and back in now. I had to use the Jeep while the shop did the job.
Total cost was.....gag....cough...gag......$255. :angry7:
They had to replace the armature, solenoid and drive.

Funny thing now. I don't quite understand it.
Now when the key is turned to the on position the DRL's will not come on. They used to before. :???:
They will only come on when the engine is running and in drive or reverse. Put it in neutral and they turn off. Unless the light switch is manually pulled out. WTF is up with that?!! It doesn't matter if the Delay dial is on or off.

The low oil DIC light also comes on briefly after starting and then goes off. :???: I think they may have just dislodged the plug but I'll check in the morning when he engine is cold. I'll have to remove the plastic pan to check.

Wow, Canadian pricing is out of control. A gear reduction around here brand new is probably $150 and a direct drive is probably half that. did they come to your driveway and install it for $255?

It was my fault they charged me $140 in labour to re/re it. I just didn't have time to do it. :angry7:
So the rebuild cost $115.
I was quoted $109 for a rebuilt unit with a 3 Yr warranty or $145 for a new unit. Both 1:1 but none in town. I didn't price a geared unit.

As it was, I had to put it up on the ramps this morning and plug in the oil level sensor plug that they had unknowingly pulling out. :angry4:
Everything is working fine now.

I fear we haven't heard the last of this car....... 8-[
