I have a 97 SSE with electronic climate control. Everything was working fine with the AC/Heat system. I was having no problems. Then about 3 weeks ago, my battery crapped out. Had to buy a new battery. After installation of the new battery I have been having all kinds of problems with the heater/AC system. Immediately after installation of the battery, the temperature display on the ECC head unit began flashing. I have searched here in the forum and found that is common when a battery is replaced. Anyway, after the battery replacement, sometimes I have heat. Sometimes I don't. I can start the car and have no heat. I can turn the system off, and then back on, and I may have heat. I may not. I can stop and turn off the car and when I turn it back on, I will have heat. I can have heat and then just change a setting on the ECC and then lose heat. One time, it was blowing cold air on high heat settings and blowing hot air on very low temp settings. It is a strange mixed bag. But It only started with the battery change. I had no problems before that. The ECC temp still flashes every time I start the car. It flashes for a few seconds and then stops. Any ideas? Did the battery change cause this or is it just coincidence? Is there a way to reset the unit? It is really driving me crazy. Works, doesn't, works, doesn't, yada, yada, yada. But again, all was fine until a battery change. Oh, I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery several times, and it still is acting up. Thanks

Without proper diagnosis (paying for a scan at the dealer) it's very hard to say for sure, but it is MOST LIKELY:

The link that willwren sent is great. My question is, on the 96-97 bonne do you still go through/behind the glovebox?

Correct. From up underneath the hush-panel. Above your RF passenger's feet. And it's all by feel.

(it took me closer to 20 minutes to do Taylor's including getting the tools together and pulling the hush-panel, but I'll take the props just the same)

Well, about 3-4 years ago, I did the AC/Controller nipple repair procedure I found here on this forum. If I could successfully pull that off, do you think I could pull this one off?

this repair is worse than the nipple repair IMHO. if this is your first attempt at the airmix actuator repair expect massive frustration in trying to get to the most distant screw holding the actuator in place. i had to end up fabricating a small wrench and socket combination to reach and turn the most distant screw. however, it sounds as though you are mechanically inclined and have patience so i would say go for it. for me it helped to remove the glove box to get some partial views of the actuator and linkage. good luck!

Willwren, or anyone.....I have reviewed the guide that you posted. It seems pretty straightforward and I am ready to tackle the replacement, however I am confused about a part number. The author of the guide that was posted says there are two different possible parts and to look for codes C67 or CJ2 on the parts code list on the spare tire cover. I have all the codes from that list and there is no C67 or CJ2. Are there any other codes I need to look for?

Thanks

Here's the RPO code breakdown:
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=39&t=793

You can use that page to decipher what means what.

It seems there is a C68 as well, maybe you have that...problem being is I don't 100% know which actuator to assign with the other RPO code or what could be the issue here, I just did mine but I had one of the two main codes listed. Hopefully a gearhead will help you here...

*edit: Found it!

ACDELCO Part # 1571835 {#16124942}
ACTUATOR,TEMP VLV w/A/C AUTO CONTROL(C61)
$53.79 $0.00 $53.79

ACDELCO Part # 1571923 {#16141822}
ACTUATOR,TEMP VLV w/A/C AUTO ELEC CONT(C68)
$63.79 $0.00 $63.79

You may have C61 or C68, check again.

I do have a C68 in the list of codes. That is closest thing to the two listed by the replacement thread.

OK. Here's a strange.

After about 3 weeks of malfunctions on the A/C-heater system, with the flashing temp reading on the ECC, and no heat when I wanted it, or heat when I wanted A/C, the darn thing just began working properly again. This happened about a week and a half ago, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. No hiccups at all. Works every time now. What could explain that?

I had the same happen...very probable that it'll break again in the near future...you are probably just lucky right now. I would change it quite honestly (my opinion)
