Year and Trim: 1992 Buick Regal GS
Ok so I am both new here and learning about my 1992 Bucik Regal GS Sport Series 1 Buick 3800 which I beleive is a L27

But I cant find that designation anywhere only the following

NLW 3.8 N2.G3.8W8JAW9

I have several maintnence issues going on but the first I would like to clear is which spark plugs to use?

Currently installed are the AC Delco 41-601 which are ribbed and have a nickel body made in France. Very nice compared to the current available AC which do not have ribbing and have a different "black" body.

I was reading an article that said on Waste Spark DIS you should only use Douple Platinum Spark plugs and doing some searching found this site.

Where I found a list that said NGK's TR55 and do not use Doulbe Platinums!

Currently almost all the plugs are out and I am scratching my head and need to be on the right course. Thanks

Bosch Platinums are confirmed to erode quickly in a waste-spark system.

Irridium would be ok, but never use Platinum of ANY kind in a Supercharged or Turbocharged application (just putting that out there).

My favorite plug is the NGK TR55. They're used widely with great success on this Forum.

Bosch platinums tend to foul quickly. ACDelco platinums do ok, I hear. 3800's in particular have pretty good luck with copper plugs, though.

Is the regal a coupe or sedan?

:hail: I borrowed a Haynes in it it list the AC41-600 which is the same as the 41-601

after that there are double asteriks like this ** Therefore it reads AC 41-600** or equivelant @.60

Below it gives the description of the double asteriks

** Platinum Type Plugs

Does anyone else have any thoughts

Why do you like the NGK TR55 and these are not Platinum correct? I believe the 1993 Ponitac has the same engine.

Also my 1992 Regal GS is a 2door Coupe. Its pretty cool actually!

The TR55 gives a smoother idle than other copper plugs like it. Just a gut feeling, and they have a long life. The price is well worth it.

The fact that Haynes lists platinum plugs is of no consequence one way or another. It's probably the worst manual that ever covered our cars. Platinum (in some cases as mentioned above) would be fine for your car, but IMO they just aren't worth the price. Both my 93 and 95 seem to favor copper plugs.

The 92 3800's never came from the factory with Plats..

If you really want to use plats, get the NGK TR55GP

Hello, I don't have a pontiac or anything but I do have a 93 buick park avenue ultra supercharged 3.8L V6 that says for plugs I need doubt platinum .060 Plugs... now in this a few people said don't use double platinum ones... what should I use.. I mean the manuals at the hardware store said to use the double platinums on the supercharged version but normal ones on the non supercharged ones.. thanks!

Use Copper or Iridium plugs in an SC application... Do not use Platinum in a supercharged 3800

The reason you want don't want to use platinum in a supercharched car is that the electrode on a platinum plug is usually extremely small and will create a hot spot under boost and can cause detonation which can cause engine damage.

I have had good luck with the NGK TR55s as well in both my '93 SSEi and my '03 SSEi.

As for the non supercharged cars, the NGKs also work well for them, but I just normally go with something platinum or iridium for longer life, especially if the engine is stock.
