This thing's weird. I've noticed ever since I got the car, when you put it in OD, it hesitates going into gear, you can't just get on it right away. I'm cool with that, I just attribute it to having 147K miles on it. If you stomp on it in 1st, it runs up to the redline, hesitates, then shifts really hard into 2nd. 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th are about the smoothest shifts I've ever felt. I've noticed too, a couple times I've had to get on the brakes really hard (once to avoid hitting a car slamming on brakes, then the other day me just simply not paying attention and almost running a red light), the car will come to a complete stop, then when you go to give it the gas, nothing, like in neutral. Put it in neutral, then back into OD, it's fine. Is something wrong, or is it just being a 15 year old 147K mile car?

Doesn't sound normal if its been maintained. Flushes and filter changes every 30k is maintaining a transmission. Has that been done? 147k is nothing for a healthy trans...my 89's felt awesome at 156k when sold. and that was a rough draft of the smoothness you find in a 4T60-E

IDK, the previous owner kept it up pretty good, but I'm not 100% sure. The above listed are my only problems. Everyday driving through town feels awesome, just as smooth as can be, but it's just these cases of WOT or extreme braking where I have my problems, and not even big problems, just minor annoyances.

Well...regardless of what the previous owner did...since thats obviously out of your hands...have you had it flushed? How does the fluid look? Bright translucent pink? Is the level normal? Remember to check while at full operating temperature, while running, in park. (For the n00bs) :)

Sounds line it has low line pressure. There's pressure taps on the case to allow testing line pressure from the pump. Low line pressure can delays/soft shifts because it takes longer for the pistons to apply and release. That's likely a problem with the pump or the regulator.

Get it checked out before it gets worse.

Low line pressure will speed up the demise of your clutches. Get an adjustable modulator on there ASAP while you look into it further.

I was gonna say, a new vacuum modulator might do wonders.

Are adjustable modulators available "off the shelf"? I'm heading south next weekend with my wish list in hand.

$12 bucks at Autozone or any other place. They'll likely have it in stock. It's pretty easy. One vacuum line, one bolt, and pull it off. There will be a screw in the end that you turn to adjust your shift firmness.
