Just a thought, maybe a bad wheel bearing? If you have the ambition, you could switch the two side to side and see if the noise changes. Kind of a lot of work for a "maybe", but it's not that hard if you have a warm place to do it. IDK? Still could be an axle, but you said they are new?

Hmm well the front wheel bearings have less than 10k on them and no play.

And yea the axles are both new but as others suggested they could be bad out of the box?

Have you checked the obvious.

Ignition plugs and wires?

When my rear plug wire touched the O2 sensor it gave the same symptoms.

Now the only time I get your symptoms is when I need a plug change.

I was chasing an ignition related problem about a month ago. I pulled the plugs, which looked good, replaced the wires, and swapped in a low mile ICM. So, all those items should be good. I was loosing two cylinders at a time. The coils were good, so I swapped in a mystery ICM and the problem came back. Finally I swapped in the ICM off my low mile L26 and it ran good.

May or may not be an issue, but I found that on the newer ICMs, pin "K" is populated and is an added ground. When I checked what it did, it was directly tied to the back of the ICM (which would ground on the mounting plate), but would also tie into the ground that is on the ICM harness. The older (to my knowledge, pre-'96) ICMs didn't have pin "K" at all, and my only guess is because GM found they needed a better ground than what the ICM mount could provide.

I do know that older cars can run the newer ICM with no issues, but I am not sure about the other way around. In any event, it never hurts to have too much ground.

I think I found the problemmmmm.

I honestly never tested the mounts under load. I visually inspected them and rocked the car pretty good. Oh well, at least I got it eventually.

Yep it's definitely it.

I drove to Lowes last night straight from work, bought a ratcheting strap, wrapped it around the mount and the subframe (in the parking lot), and tested it out.. Someone did this but I forget who. It felt pretty good then and into work today.

I'll make a new and improved mount when I get back from travel at the end of the month.

Thanks for the help guys.

Welcome to the club. I've crapped 4 front trans mounts, and 2 of them have been beefed-up customs. Glad you found the problem. That's a much better scenario than a diff or an axle.
