Year and Trim: 1992 Pontiac SE
I am having this very same problem. I bought my 1992 Pontiac, and it has a Viper remote starter in it. I noticed that every now and then it would not start, and that the security light would come on. No cranking--until I wait a few minutes and try again. This happened on and off until I finally just unhooked the Viper completely and started using the keys. I continued to have the same problem though, and went as far as trying to bypass the VATS system by installing the resistor. On the day I attempted to do that though, I noticed that the orange wire had been cut on the steering column--at the point from the cylinder. I didn't go any further. From what you have said, my VATS is already being bypassed, correct? I have not traced the other end, but assume it is in the mess of wires and Viper box (which is still there). This sounds like the exact same situation the other person was having. From previous posts, I am assuming that the installer of the Viper had to wire-in their own resistor pack---and that is what may be bad? Please confirm, as I my next move is to install a VATS module I have seen on Ebay. MANY THANKS!
