Guys,

I have the chance to buy a really low mileage '98 L67 Olds LSS. The elderly original owner hit something with the right front wheel, and it broke the tie rod, ruined the rim, and busted the anti-sway bar loose from it's bushing. I was just wondering if anyone here has a guestimate of whether I can just replace the tie-rod, or what the chances are that more steering components were damaged. If I buy the car I'll probably replace the a-arm and strut just to make sure I don't have any other bent components. Anyway, here is a picture of the damage. I'd love to buy this car, but I don't have any experience working on steering components and don't want to get in over my head.

Any thoughts?

Most likely it will be the strut, lower control arm and the inner tie rod that have to be replaced, I'd replace the outer tie rod as well.. But accept the fact that down the road you may have to replace the steering rack... If the car is cheap enough and really does have super low miles it may just be worth it..

Replace both front struts and the other parts you need and have the alignment reset

Thanks JR! It has 38k one (elderly) owner miles. Besides that damage it's incredibly clean. I'm nervous about buying a car with underbody damage, but ultra-low mileage 12 year old L67's just don't come along all that often.

I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. Those are all cheap ($30) dollar parts and if you're decently inclined you can do all of those yourself. The only tricky part will be the inner tie rod, you need a special tool for that. Get a professional alignment when it's done and you're good to go.
