I had to lay on the horn at somebody cutting me off tonight, and I do not think I was heard. I can just barely hear my horns over my own radio when it's turned to talk radio at moderate volume, much less anything more complex musically.

Should I go aftermarket or bite the bullet and pony up for stock replacements? Going to a yard isn't an option because the nearest ones are an hour away, and only open 9-4 weekdays.

There are actually 2 horns on different frequencies. Check which one is bad and place a post in the wanted section and someone might have one for you. Or when someone goes to the yard they will pick one up for you.

This may or may not be your issue, but before my battery failed (yes, literally failed...steaming battery acid and all lol) my horns sounded like they were dieing. Nothing else was affected - interior lights, radio, etc, were all completely unaffected. Replaced the battery, problem was solved.

It's a 6 month old battery.

Neither horn is bad. They're a bit weak, like somebody is playing a recording of horns at moderate volume instead of actual horns.

The fact that they make some noise doesn't necessarily mean they are good. You need to supply power and ground directly to the terminals on each horn to verify its opperation. One is a high pitch horn and the other is low pitch so they will sound different from one another.

Sounds like a good time for air horns! Ha

If they do turn out to be bad, search ebay. You should be able to find horns deep. If you really want to go fancy, find the up-level 4-note horns out of a PA or deville. I put a set of those in my aurora to replace the 2-note horn. Wow, what a difference.

The park avenues had four horns, playing four different notes, which sound like a train. The mounting location for the two extra horns exist on the bonneville, right behind the two existing ones. I simply bought the two notes i didn't have and added them...they bolt right on. Sounds awesome!

Cleaned the body grounds, and also checked both horns individually. They both work, but are still a bit weak. Testing them after re-assembling the grounds made me look, but not flinch.

Maybe it's just that they're not that loud to start with.

I'll look at getting other GM horns since I really like the mellow tone on these.
