I have always been able to come here and get help from u guys, now im back for more help. My transmission is taking a dump on me and im in need of a tranny bad. Everywhere I call they are asking for some specs, but I dont know the specs to give them. I have a 1997 Buick lesabre, with a 4t60-e tranny in it, where im confused at is that when looking for a donor tranny they ask these questions,

which does it have?
FWD, 2.84 axle ratio (F17), w/o LeSabre timing option "WA2"
FWD, 3.06 axle ratio (FW2), w/o LeSabre timing option "WA2"
FWD, 2.84 axle ratio (F17), w/LeSabre timing option "WA2"
FWD, 3.06 axle ratio (FW2), w/LeSabre timing option "WA2",

I have no clue about this, can anyone help?

Find the RPO codes, they are on the spare tire cover on our cars, All the info you need will be there. For a list of codes and what they mean go here......

http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=39&t=793

If for some reason your spare tire cover is missing, the dealer can tell from the VIN what you have. OR, there is a tag on your transmission that should tell you what you want to know if you can find it.

Im still not understanding this LeSabre timing option "WA2", I see that it states that it eather had it or it did not. How can I find out if mine has it or not, because the code sheet that u gave me states nothing about this.

I have narrowed it down to 2 options:

FWD, 2.84 axle ratio (F17), w/o LeSabre timing option "WA2"
or
FWD, 2.84 axle ratio (F17), w/LeSabre timing option "WA2"

WA2 is an Updated Lock up strategy... You will have to have the right Torque converter for the WA2 equipped cars... Using the older converter in a WA2 car will most likely burn up the torque converter Clutch..

That "WA2" sounds like an RPO code, so look at the same build sheet to see if it is called out on the list of options assembled into your car. (Yes, I know in the Techinfo section, "WA2" is called out as the Bonneville GXP package code, but RPO codes are often re-used over the years and can mean different things to different car lines.) If it is not on the RPO build sheet, then your car doesn't have the option.

If it does not state this option in my RPO codes, does that mean i do not have this option?

iirc all 97's should use the newer lockup strategy... And no it will not always be in the code listing... Someone is going to have to do their research and figure out what converter will be the right one for the car... Even better yet... When they get the converter off all they have to do is read the numbers on the converter... This should tell them exactly what the converter is.. If the wrong converter is used with the newer lockup strategy the converter may burn up... So its very important to use the proper converter with the PCM Lockup Strategy.

Ok maybe I might be going at this all the wrong way, if I were to go and pull me a tranny from the junk yard and say I was to use the converter it has in it, is this going to be a problem if the tranny not the same as what is in my car right now (with or without the timing option)? Like will there be some sensors or plugs different between the trannys? Or can I use eather one of the trannys (timing option or no timing option) on my car as long as it has the correct gear ratio?

If you pull a trans from the yard, 96-97 should work, but you may have to use your original torque converter if the numbers on the converters don't match...

Quick question... What wrong with your trans?

So if I used the trans from a yard and I used the torques converter from the same car I pulled it from, I could run into a problem?

have a shuttering problem going on in the tranny, most of the time its when the car is switching into overdrive, TCC, changed filter a few weekends ago and metal had grey metal slug all in the bottom.

By all rights if you get the 4T60E from a 97 C or H body with the same gear ratio you should be able to use the trans and torque converter

As far as I 've been able to net-research, WA2 refers to a mid-year update / switch from the old AFS075 o2 sensor to the AFS109 type. It should show on your RPO sticker.

To be 100% visually sure, look at your front (upstream) o2 sensor; if it is a 4-flat connector, you are non-WA2. If it is a 4-square connector, you are WA2.

Now then, what this would have to do with trans and TC's, it should have nothing to do with any of that; my guess is that like any parts inventory system, it has to be divided and categorized somehow, and WA2 was a chosen categorizer.
