Year and Trim: 1990 Bonneville Le
Hi new to club. I inherited a 1990 bonneville from MY grandparents who have past. Drove car from Tennessee to Illinois. Car then died. Have a code 42. Found that out after I pulled the dash and replaced ck engine bulb. I have replaced the icm tps camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. Hope crankshaft sensor is in right. Watched a lot of videos. Don't know where to go now. Would really like to keep car it's sentimental. Thanks in advance for the help.

It's not unheard of for the wiring leading to the crank sensor to get worn through and short out. Check out its harness for a couple feet. You'll probably destroy the loom in doing so, so have some handy.

I'd suggest using loom from the engine compartment of a car at a wrecker. Any of the junk I've ever bought at parts stores has proven it's for interior use only and melted into a blob of plastic anywhere near the engine. I continue my quest for the "real" stuff (at a reasonable price).

I understand what you are saying and tend to agree bit the harness is brand new. Only ran car once. Does the crankshaft sensor have anything to do with this symptom?

Will the car run if the throttle is held open? If so, how well does it run?

It runs ok when I hold the pedal at a higher rpm.Sometimes it sputters a little but otherwise it's good. I drove the car from Tennessee to Illinois with no problems.

I know it's not related to code 42, but it may be good to check fuel pressure and behaviors to rule it out as a problem.

For 42, you may try checking the ground under the ICM. Sometimes I wonder if this code can set if the engine suffers from stalling and the ICM and ECM don't hand off to eachother properly.

Do you have a spare ECM kicking around?
