I took a chance and usually I shop around and look at several cars... but I had a good feeling about this car... even with the obvious flaws (bad tires, blown shocks, failing clear coat, and the poorly glued windshield) there were so many pluses... good color combo, velvet tuffed red interior, new CD player, new intake gaskets, windshield, headliner, timing belt.... the best part...working A/C. All for $600. Shock towers and subframe have no rust.... I feel like I can't loose at that price.

Further investigation, car ran very nicely, but stumbled and was hard to start... was leaking fuel, got really bad on the way home, luckily it was a crack by the fuel filter only not the sending unit. Also the leak where the trim was pulling away from the top of windshield has cause a big hole of rust near the door. At some point I'll remove the door and fender, possibly the windshield and boor all the rust out and weld the hole shut. Makes some wind noise. Also rear pass door wont open and the antenna is not hooked updont even see the wire. The bumper dent is just the metal, no bent frame, swap a new one and she'll be perfect.

Had a set of 15" tires that I now dont have a vehicle for so I traded them for set of 14" tires to replace the bald ones. They are nice have a thick whitewall... I tossed some black paint on the steelies and yesterday ground off all the rust I could reach... hit with some gray primer she looks much better. Got some clearcoat to clean up the clouding... wont be perfect but will do for now... pretty good beater... a super beater.

$600 for a running and driving car is nothing to scoff at around these parts, especially one of that era. The only downer is that parts are getting harder to come by.

Also, if your windshield is leaking, it's best to get it fixed while you still have a headliner to worry about.

Those look great! That is my fave year for the delta 88... the grill taillights and trim really give the car an agressive look... plus the dark int. trim works better in my eyes than the bright silver mine has... I will probably try to swap with wood or that at some point, but aluminum is growing on me


Yeah, i am slowly cleaning up the mess and then I will reseal the bad spot... for now all Ive noticed is a bit of dampness in front of the visors after it rains....

I cleaned the interior today.... the pillowed seats suddenly looked bright and new vs the old and dead when I bought her... perhaps a seat swap can wait a minute

So the last few weeks ive been slowly tinkering on the Olds... Ive names her Leela because im painting her with a purple trim and the split grill looks a bit like a cyclops eye.... here's the paint scheme i want to try

I did a little bit of rust work and got rid of all of the little surface and acne rust that that car has. Still trying to figure out how to get the rear door open but I got the front door working again. I also dug into the rust on top of the windshield. Car definitely looks better having the rust taken care of and the gray primer hides it well. I signed up the new tires which I'm still getting thump at 65 and the white wall looked good. But I started looking in my basement for trim rings and ended up finding these hubcaps from an LTD. To ensure that they stay put I employed in old hubcap trick. Large and gaudy valve stems will keep a hubcap from falling off if for some reason it bounces loose. So far it's working

Those wheel covers add more to the car than I thought they ever would.

Reminds me of the '77 Ford Maverick my father had with these covers on it:

I am thinking those would be that much more interesting.

Also, I am having trouble finding the post on it, but at one point JR's3800 was mentioning that there was a piece on the rear door latch (somewhere in the locking lever I think, or button possibly) that liked to corrode and stick, disabling use of the door. From what I remember it was fairly apparent what was happening once the door is apart.

I saw that and hitting below the door helped the front door start moving again... My button moves with no resitance, like the rod has become disconnected ...

those caps are cool, saw an 89 cadillac deville with similar caps off a riviera looked great but i would have to find some! The hubcaps might have been on a pinto they are early 80s late 70s LTD hubcaps the logo looks a bit like the olds rocket, I'll see if i can dig up a pic of that caddy
