Hi all, I found this forum through a search on how to replace a possible bad front wheel bearing, thanks for being around .

I inherited a 91 Bonneville with 75K on it.
I'm working on replacing the thermostat, transmission fluid, and oil today. Thermostat because it's been sitting and doesn't warm up much past 100. Transmission fluid because i don't think its been done and it was shifting hard but that's now cured since i put in TransTune from SeaFoam. and Oil... well it's been sitting and it needs it.

The car has remote locks but they stopped working, I believe my grandparents had it checked and they said the module needed to be replaced. Any one know where i can get one plus new key fobs to work with the new unit? I see people have parts for sale here but i haven't seen the actual unit.
I'm not sure if this goes along with it as well but the trunk release in the glove box also only works when the key is in and the car is in the ON position. I thought i read somewhere it did.

Is there an easy way to swap the wiper blades and trim out? I'd rather put some rain-x ones on instead of the refills but i haven't looked closely enough at the assembly yet.

Do SSE parts work in the LE trim? I saw SSEBonne4evr has some parts like the climiacontrol that i wouldn't mind swapping to.

You think the thermostat is stuck in the open position? Pop the radiator cap and look for flow with the engine cold and running. If the radiator is full and you don't see the level changing, then you probably don't have a problem with the thermostat. Note: The simple dash on the LE isn't the greatest and your temp gauge may not be as calibrated as you might think. Mine barely comes up to a 1/4 of the scale under normal operation. Also the car is blessed with a radiator far bigger than the engine really needs.

Wiper blades are pretty easy. The entire head comes off the arm and is replaced. It's getting harder and harder to fine anyone who even sells refills anymore.

Swapping SSE parts is do-able, but there are different wiring harnesses so you may need to add circuits and multiple modules to get it all to work. Physically, it will all fit and bolt up to the SE and LE trim levels (there's not a lot of style change between the three and they share a lot of interior components.)

I was getting little to no heat out of it as well. I did change it this weekend and everything is working great now. Other than the fact the dealership that changed the oil always for my grandparents stripped the pan and didn't tell them :-\. So i'll have to replace the oil pan. Anyone know which oil pan it would be on advance auto parts site as they list two of them?

Are you referring to the oil pan drain bolt? It is not too bad on these to change the pan and they are usually readily available at the local JY.

Does this LE have code AU0 on the spare tire cover label? as well the receiver is known to fail in the 90-91 Bonnevilles.. you need to see if the system will cycle or signal its ready for the learn process... If it does have Keyless there will be a grounding tab on the left rear of the glove box... It will have 2 pins, you simply insert a small screwdriver or the like and this grounds the learn mode pin, the locks should cycle and the trunk should pop... Let us know if you find the program tab and if the system cycles...

Yes, sadly the junk yards that are around me are a bit of a drive or they don't keep that old of parts. So in the end it'll be cheaper to buy from an auto parts store but its figuring out which one.

I looked at Rock auto ($60) and Napa online ($97). I will bet if you look around you could find one at the yard. These are very common in a lot of different models in the GM line at that time. Let us know what you want to do because I know I can get them readily available from the pick and pull for $20, but not sure on what the shipping would be.

I do have one of the fobs.

Got the transmission fluid replaced... stupid filter ring seals are always a pain in the rear.


On advance auto it's either $40 or $49 with a coupon code. Not sure why there's the two types but one is a GMP24A part and one is a GMP24B so i guess I'd have to call to find out which one If the part and shipping is cheaper than the $40 I might consider it!

Not sure if you can find a replacement for it... I don't even have the part numbers for it anymore...

Do you happen to know what the technical name for the unit is? I'll see if google has something to offer .

When you insert the screwdriver, keep it in there... when the system cycles hit any button on the FOB, the system should cycle again to let you know its learned the remote, if this is the only remote you have then remove the tab( screwdriver )

If you have 2 remotes, apply the ground tab( screwdriver ) when the system cycles press a button on the first Fob, the system should cycle to let you know the remote is learned, right after this hit a button on the second remote, the system should cycle to let you know the remote has been learned... Remove the ground tab( screwdriver ) and test the remotes...

I'll try this again as i tried to hit all the buttons on the fob and it did nothing. I'll try to get a new battery for it as well. Could it be the fob is bad? or would it still be the module?

Does your FOB say AB0103T or AB0104T on the back?

Is that original to the car?

As far as i know and can remember yes. I even tried to weld plastic to the end of it where the ring broke off for my grandpa at one point haha.
