I have a clanking sound on my 89's exhaust and traced it to the fact that it needs another hangar between the muffler and the Catalytic. It flexes in between and makes an irritating creaking and clanking sound when backing up, putting it in gear, and taking off. The car had the exhaust changed a few years ago.

Where is the stock exhaust hung on between the muffler and catalytic?
Was the stock Delta 88 exhaust aluminum like my 87 Bonneville's was?

Here is what my 89 exhaust looks like. From the cat to the muffler, there is only that cross brace.

Thanks for the pic. I guess they took of the stock cat exhaust hangar on mine because they replaced it with a standard rubber/metal one after the cat on my Delta 88. The main pipe is also in 2 pieces on my cheapo muffler shop exhaust so maybe it droops under the axle because of that. I did try putting a plastic tie strap under the rear middle axle to hold up the exhaust just to see if that position would work for a extra hanger location and it did quite it down until it fell off a couple of days later.

So my exhaust is now cracked 80 percent thru and hanging down and I will be replacing it next week, at least the section before the exhaust goes under the rear axle to the muffler.

Any suggestions on routing the pipe? I have a glasspack muffler and am thinking of going under the axle in the middle and then just straight out for a center outlet exhaust. This will be a DIY exhaust and this looks like the easiest way.

Anyone else do a DIY exhaust on the rear section and any suggestions on routing? The current routing for my transverse muffler has a few tight bends before it goes in the muffler and a straight out muffler setup looks like the best option and I don't see anything impeding it.

I used an F-body muffler, with dual outlets, on my '86.
