A weird one on my 89. When it is cold outside (today it was 29*) and the car has its first start of the day I have this issue.

I start the car and it idles high (it should because it is cold) but never idles down even after warmed up and accelerator is pressed. Turn car off and restart and it idles fine. Has done this 3 times this winter.

Today I got the SES when I let it warm up. Got my scanner out and got a code 22 for TPS circuit low. When I checked the TPS voltage it was .49 at idle and stays there.

What could cause the TPS voltage to be low during cold start only. This has not happened in the past 5 years I have owned this. TPS was replaced last year. The only thing I can think of is to adjust the TPS so it holds a little higher voltage at idle, but still within the limit.

I think .49 is a tad high... Have you tried .36-.40?

What type of TPS did you Buy? Or where did you get it?

I have my FSM and had set it to .4v when I installed it. When I checked it this morning, it was at .36v before I started it. No matter how many times I restarted it, it would not idle down until it went into closed loop and then I restarted it and it went down.

I was getting the code 22 for a low TPS voltage. Should I try to reset it to .4v? at high idle it is holding 1300rpm until it goes into closed loop and then it takes a restart to get the idle down.

The TPS was purchased thrugh Napa and was put on last April. It was replaced after I cleaned the engine and water got into it.

Now its getting really odd.... What does the ECM show for TPS Voltage? As well as Engine temp?

Yesterday it showed engine temp of 34* and TPS was .36v. I haven't checked it yet today.

Just checked it and coolant temp was 36* and the tps was .35v. I saw the IAC counts change when the idle came down. Everthing seems to be doing what it should, O2 swings good on voltage and rich/lean even though it is not used until closed loop.

Did the same thing. Idled at 1300 rpm until closed loop and a restart. After that initial time, it idles fine until it sets all night.

That is strange... Have you ever replaced the ECM? And keep an eye on it just incase it does get funky...

So now the question is, is the idle above what the ECM is commanding?

I will check that in the morning after work. No, I have never changed the ECM.
