The odometer stopped reading on my 87 LE, it is the gear driven odometer how do i fix this?

You need to dismantle the cluster. What likely has happened is that one of the gears has cracked on one of the digits. The way to fix it is to pull the cluster apart, and repair the cracked gear. The other possibility is if the motor for the odometer has gone out. In either case, as soon as the cluster comes apart, and the issue repaired, the odometer likely will show signs of tampering. That is a major red flag if you try and sell the car. Only other option will be to take it to a shop <I think it has to be dealership actually>, and have them correct the issue. What they will normally do is replace the odometer assembly, and document the mileage the service was performed not only in the system, but also in a sticker in the doorjamb.
