ok i have a 1989 Bonneville sse with the 3.8l my water pump went out and when it did its was chugging along and now making a almost metal on metal squeal. I dont know but i love the car i hate to get rid of it if it is a easy fix. thanks for your time.

Well, if you say the WP is bad then replace it. That would probably be the cause of your squealing. Other sources could be your alternator or AC compressor. Remove the belt and spin each pulley to feel for resistance, wobble, or noise if you need to narrow it down even more.

I might add Eric, to avoid the AutoZone Cheap water pumps. My Wifes Bonne is on #3 in 15k miles with the current one starting to make a little noise. Its getting an ACDelco next time. Free lifetimes don't mean much when you always have to change them.

Very true ;)

A cheapie unit is like $20 while a decent AC Delco part is $35-40. Definitely worth the money to get the better part but at the time I did the last one (my brother's Olds 88) we were in a pinch to get it done ASAP. Its still holding up fine a couple years and several thousand miles later so meh. If/when it needs to be done again a better part will go on but even then it only takes half an hour from start to finish so its not a huge issue right now.
