My sister has a 1990 regal with a 3800, it needs a fuel filter. Where is it located and what kind of tool do i need to remove it? I am going to try to tackle it tomorrow afternoon.

It is a steel can filter inline with the main fuel line. Should be under the driver side of the car, just ahead of the rear tire, with a clamp bolted around the body of the filter to the subframe of the car.

You need a 10mm socket for the retaining clamp bolt, plus 10 & 13mm tube wrenches for the fittings. In a pinch, use a pair of cresent wrenches (one hold the filter still, the other to loosen the pipe fitting, just make sure they are tight to keep from rounding off the flats of the tube nut.) If the filter has never been changed, the lines might be rusty, but the tube nuts are not put in very tight. Hose the fitting with a little penetrating oil if needed. When you install the new filter, don't go overboard tightening them up. Make sure the tube nuts thread into the filter correctly by hand, and snug them down with the wrenches (about 10 ft-lbs of force.)

The fuel pipes have O-ring seals on them. Don't loose them.

Takes about 5-10 minutes to change the filter. Piece of cake.

Vice grips work as well, just dont let them slip.

Well I got under there and it looks like somebody tried to do it before me, and the fuel line is twisted up. She is going to take it in because of how rusty everything is.
